Howto get your network running

1. Connect your network cable to your computer.
2. Type into your browser ghb.fh-furtwangen.de
3. Register yourself and LOGIN.
4. Create an Host (My Account -> Host -> Create Host).
4.1 The hostname is the name of your computer.
4.2 The mac is preconfigured just press update.
5. Wait until an admin has accepted your account.
6. Restart your computer.

seid kurzem gibt es im Android Market eine GHB App. Diese zeigt euch euren verbrauchten Traffic und die letzten Neuigkeiten an. Sie kann aber auch zum Ticket schreiben verwendet werden. Also, wenn dein Rechner nicht mehr tut, so hilft dir nun dein Smartphone.

for quite some time now, there has been a GHB app in the Android Market. That app shows your traffic quota, that latest news and can be used to submit tickets. So if your PC decides go sans network: use your smartphone to tell us about it.

In letzter Zeit müssen wir öfters feststellen, dass es in den Wohnheimen Großhausberg und Albert-Schweizer-Kolleg zu Downloads via Bittorent kommt.
Dies entspricht nicht unseren Nutzungsbedingungen. Solltet Ihr erwischt werden von bösen Abmahnanwälten, bekommt die Hochschule dieses Schreiben und danach wir. Wir sind dazu angehalten bei solchen Verstößen sanktionelle Maßnahmen einzuleiten und Urheberrechtsverletzungen zu unterbinden.

Längerer Netzausfall Wartungsarbeiten ab 1400 Uhr

Wie ihr sicher mitbekommen habt, gab es in letzter Zeit öfters Netzausfälle, die größtenteils mit dem GHB zu tun hatten. Durch mutwillige Zerstörung der Funkstrecke ist momentan nur eine Kommunikation über den BackUpFunk möglich. Es wird heut ab 1400 Uhr eine neue Funkstrecke installiert. Wir müssen für den Umbau die komplette Funkanlage deaktivieren, aufgrund der hohen Betriebs-Strahlung. Wer also noch dringend etwas aus dem Internetz benötigt hat noch Zeit bis 1400Uhr dies zu erledigen. Der Umbau wird vorraussichtlich bis Dienstag 05.04.2011 1400Uhr dauern. we need your opinion

Hallo GHBler,
seit einigen Semestern gibt es das GHB Sommerfest, welches immer im Sommersemster (Juni) stattfindet. Dieses Jahr fallen sehr viele Feiertage in den Juni und es scheint fast unmöglich einen geeigneten Termin zu finden. Daher haben wir eine kleine Umfrage erstellt wo euch VIER mögliche Termine vorgeschlagen werden. Bis zum 3. APRIL könnt ihr eure Stimme abgeben und dann entscheiden wir welcher Tag am besten ist (wo können die meisten) bzw. ob es sich überhaupt lohnt in diesem Jahr ein Sommerfest zu planen.

Neues Domain Name System

Seit ende letztes Semester haben wir auf einen neuen DNS (Domain Name System) umgestellt.

Anscheinend haben immer noch manche Leute im GHB Probleme damit, darum kontrolliert bitte in euren LAN Einstellungen ob ihr den richtigen DNS benutzt. Die IP Adresse des neuen DNS ist 141.28.230.16 . Sollte bei euch die IP des alten DNS eingetragen sein (141.28.230.1) ist etwas faul.

Bitte kontrolliert auch ob ihr "Netzwerkeinstellungen automatisch beziehen"(dhcp) eingestellt habt , dann solltet Ihr so oder so keine Probleme haben.

Netzausfall - Tickets

Wie ihr sicher mitbekommen habt, gab es in letzter Zeit öfters Netzausfälle, die größtenteils nichts mit dem GHB zu tun hatten. Wenn sowas vorkommt braucht ihr nicht sofort ein Ticket schreiben, der großteil der Admins Wohnt selbst im GHB und die Tickets halten uns dann nur auf und es geht länger.

Schaut einfach im IRC in #fuwastuff, dort steht meißtens im Topic, wo gerade das Problem liegt.

Wenn nur bei euch das Internet nicht geht könnt ihr natürlich Tickets schreiben.

(Die Netadmins machen das Ehrenamtlich und haben gerade auch Prüfungen)

Viren Probleme

Die letzten Tage haben wir immer wieder Tickets bekommen, dass Traffic falsch berechnet wurde.
Wir sind dem Problem nachgegangen und kamen immer zu dem Ergebnis, dass die betroffenen Rechner von Viren befallen waren.

Einige Viren wurden trotz aktuellem AntiVir nicht gefunden.

Um besser kontrollieren zu können welche Accounts/Anschlüsse überhaupt noch Aktiv genutzt werden, MUSS sich jeder Bewohner des GHB innerhalb der ersten 4 wochen nach Vorlesungsbeginn einmalig(!) über seinen Account auf dieser Seite einloggen. Wer dem nicht nachkommt wird kommentarlos gelöscht und kommt somit nicht mehr ins Internet.

New Features: HTTP-Proxy & Radio Streams

As introduced last semester but now up and stable running on new hardware, we recommend using the HTTP-Proxy Server. You are now able to use the internet anonymously as your IP address is hidden behind the proxy.

As the proxy is able to cache web pages like Youtube, your sites might load much faster. Data you receive directly from this Proxy will not be accounted.

To use the proxy, you need to configure your web browser for using the proxy auto-config file found at http://proxy.ghb.fh-furtwangen.de/proxy.pac (usually you will need to copy & paste this link).

As a new service, the proxy now streams some internet radios to GHB. When using those radio streams, no traffic will be accounted to your hosts. Now you can listen to your favorite music stations like FuFunk without caring about your traffic limit!

New Accounting-System

A completely new accounting-system has been developed and after extensive testing installed within the GHB/ASK-domain. The new system is running within the expected parameters for about 2 weeks now. At the current point, we dont think there will be any upcoming problems.

The system has been developed within the scope of a project study of the faculty informatics and will be presented this Friday in the HFU, Building C. If you are interested in getting a deeper insight on how the system works, feel free to step by and take a look.

The new system not only features a fully reengineered accounting system, but also advanced traffic shaping and Quality Of Service, to improve the overall quality of our connection to the HFU, for chosen services.

Also part of the development was a new HTTP-Proxy server with the ability to cache googlevideo or youtube, in addition to caching normal websites. This service has been installed on a local machine, an automatic webbrowser configuration script can be found here (only reachable from within the GHB). If you need any info on what to do with this script, please consult your browser manual.

Please note: the Proxy-Service is provided AS IS. It has been installed on very old spare hardware and is very likely to collapse under heavier load like experienced within the evening prime time.
Depending on how this test setup is accepted by our users (eg. you), we will consider requesting new hardware for it.

Any traffic that runs over this proxy and is not already cached locally (cache miss) is accounted fully and added to your trafficlimit. However, traffic that is already cached by the proxy (cache hit) and therefore can be served locally, will be completely free of charge!

As a last sentence, the project team apologizes for any downtime that occurred within the last few weeks, however they are sure that they were worth it.

New shaping infrastructure test - Part 2

The problems from yesterday have been resolved and we are now running a complete new accounting and shaping system for a mid term test. The new system will be running aprox. until the end of the week unless we encounter serious problems.

As log as the test goes, the frontend functionality to display the traffic per registered host will remain disabled, however the total view will be fixed until wednesday evening.. - NetAdmin team, 2009-12-02 00:28:55
